Kootje

Kootje came in our life one year after Bessie died. I remember I came home from my Saturday job. My mother was visiting her sister on the other side of the country that day, so I was surprised to see her already home. Before I even could say 'hello' my dad asked me to put my hands up. And there I was standing with a little black, moving fur ball in my hands.

Kootje was a full Persian, with some champions blood. That and the fact that we could not totally agree, gave him the name: Roetje Ratje van Kooten (and he listened actually to all his names). In the end it became simply Kootje. He was a typical Persian, who won our hearts with his soft character and cuddling moods.
Every once and a while he remembered he was still a cat and surprised us with wild running, jumping and chasing invisible preys. Kootje was also good in hiding. Many times he got himself locked up, in a closet and even once in the fridge(!) How we searched that evening!

Together with Kootje, another phenomenon entered our family: the 'food-sound'. For years now my cats and the ones from my parents react on 'mimimimi', which is said with a high voice. Maybe strange, but VERY effective. They can hear it from far.

In the autumn of 2002 Kootje joined Bessie in cat-heaven. A tumour in his cheekbone, which could not be operated, made unfortunately an end on his life. The picture you see on the right is the last one that was made of him.
