Simon and Garfunkel - Sparrow
Under
'my poems' you might already have seen a poem with the same name. I
always loved sparrows, in every single way. Birds that have found their way in the city and
always look so full of life, so playful and happy, survivors. I love to watch them. Sparrow became my 'nickname' for
someone that is very dear to me. And yes, maybe it fits...

Queen - The show must go on
I
became a fan of Queen when I was 15. I fell in love with a guy who was
crazy with them. That made me curious. I remember he sung 'Love of my life' for me. I learned that
song by heart and even learned myself how to play it on my flute :-) He went out of my life, but Queen stayed. My ex
was also a fan of them and had all their CD's. We never had the change to see them live though. Freddy went too early.
This song has often been an inspiration for me when times went down. 'Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up
may be flaking, but my smile.... still stays on...'

Camille Saint-Saens - The Swan
A classical number from the opera ' Cirque du animal'. In my eyes one
of the most beautiful classical numbers that exists. I learned about this opera when I was in music school.
The music always eases me down and makes me smile. You can see the swan in front of you when you close your eyes.

Rob de Nijs and Martine -
Duet
A
combined Dutch/English song, about love on a distance. The missing and
longing, but also the home sickness and the choice one of the partners has to make. In fact: this song always makes
tears roll over my face. I followed my heart, but a big part of it -which contains the love for my parents and friends- is always
on the other side of the ocean... And now I got another dear friend, a 'sis', who is too far away. Also she is on the other
side of the ocean. I just couldn't break this song apart, so this is
the only complete song here.

AHA - Crying in the Rain
I
guess AHA is the most famous Norwegian band. And with a lead singer
who always stays young :-) The lyrics from this songs just appeal to me. Crying in the rain, and nobody will
see your tears. Rain also often fits with a crying mood... Most of
all, I think it's just a beautiful number

Alan Parsons Project - Old and Wise
The
first time I heard this song was in 1990. A holiday in Egypt where
both my ex and I made some real good friends. Due to circumstances contact with them is not like it was. This
song is a hymn to all those people who come in and out of our lives, but keep a place in our hearts.

Montanara Choir - La Montanara (Das lied der Bergen)
I
grew up with classical music. My grandmother had a beautiful voice and
was often singing. I learned to like classical music, although I some times hated it, hearing it too much. I
don't have a particular memory with this one, but some where I can almost hear my grandmother sing with it... When I listen
to it, I do that loud :-)

Cornelis Vreeswijk - Marjolijn
A
Dutch song from a singer who is also in Norway famous (he lived in
Sweden for a long time). I like his
songs, and finding out there was also one with my name was kind of special.

Duet from The Pearl Fishers
This
classical duet couldn't miss in this list. My memories with this also go
back to my grandmother, singing together with my dad. I have also very
strong memories of me and my dad singing this beautiful piece of art
together, while doing the dishes...
